Les Miserables

Today I went to the Broadway performance of Les Miserables at the Broadhurst Theatre.

I was sitting in a private box right next to the stage - someone pulled out at the last moment so I got their seat - WAY COOL!

It was so crazy, their were actors in my box in almost every scene. They would come through the curtains and climb down a ladder from my box onto the stage.

It was incredible to be so close to the stage. You know how when you watch a stage show, the actors in the background make small talk between each other while the main actors are talking or singing at the front?... I could hear what they were saying! It was all very in character though - how very professional of them!

Anyway, it was fantastic! I'm glad I got to see my favourite musical on Broadway - it can't get any better than that.

It's a Girl!

Congratulations to Sarah and Greg on their new baby girl, MADELINE!

More sights of Manhattan

The New York Public Library.
Another gorgeous monument Fernanda and I visited.

The famous lions, Patience and Fortitude, survey the bustling life of the city from the steps of the Library's landmark Humanities and Social Sciences Library on Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street in Manhattan

This photo is for other other Ben

You can see the ceiling of the next room through the glass

Some other things that took my fancy...

Fashion Avenue - designer clothes that only the VERY wealthy can afford
R2D2 post box - will send this to Steven!
I *heart* K sign - I was tempted to graffiti 'athryn' on the end
The United States Post Office building - very impressive
Cool Beans!! Self explanatory - very cool beans indeed!
Madison Square Gardens - we didn't go in, but passed by it while we were walking in the wrong direction at some stage
West Side sign - just 'coz

After Fernanda and I went to the Empire State Building, we did quite a bit of just general sight seeing stuff. We took heaps of crazy photos and visited some pretty amazing places!

Grand Central Station if you don't know, is a HUGE train station in the middle of the city. If you have seen Madagascar - the train station that they go to is Grand Central.

Grand Central has been Jackie O's pet project - she has worked extremely hard to get this place to the state that it is in now. Truly gorgeous.

The Empire State Building

Sunday 23rd September
Today Fernanda and I went into the city to walk around some of the famous sites and to be completely touristy about it!
When we got off the subway at Penn Station, we started walking to the Empire State building, then turned around because we were going the wrong way. We do that a lot in the city - sometimes grid formation doesn't help in the slightest.
Anyway, we arrived eventually and lined up in the queue to go up. We were nearly at the top (just after we had paid to get in) and it started to rain outside. Oh well, nothing we could do at that point so we continued.
We got to the observation deck on the 86th floor and ventured outside in the drizzle. Not so bad until the fog got really think that we couldn't see very much. Then the rain started to pour and we were forced inside.
So I guess our first adventure of the day didn't go quite as we had planned but oh well - it was still very cool.
We will go again another day - probably in the spring.
