yeah but what happens when you stop believing? It has suddenly dawned on me that my disbelief hasn't been so sudden after all. What happens now?

A life time ago

August 2nd, 2008

After looking at my blog just now, I realise that what should have been a glorious 12 months in New York turned into quite a tragic 3 months instead. Not that it was all bad though I suppose - just not what was meant to be.

It seems weird to think that if I had stayed, I would have just four weeks left until my return.

So much can change in a year. Friendships evolve (and dissolve), careers and extra-curricular activities are new and exciting and life is basically turned upside down, shaken and put back together -with only a glimmer of resemblance to what it was previously like. Almost as if I am living someone else's life for them.

We don't see it happen when it happens, though at times you can feel it - somewhere deep down there is an inkling about what is changing to and around us, but whether it is our ignorance or by pure defiance we choose not to acknowledge it until it is already done and dusted. Finished. Nothing we can do about it.

So this is sounding rather morbid but one has to think in this way occasionally to put things into perspective again.

Yes things change, and it sucks, but this is life so deal with it. Build a bridge and all that. Am I wrong??

The Hudson River

Just a few minutes away, next to the Dobbs Ferry train station, are some great views of the Hudson River. If the weather is nice, you can see the bridge, today it wasn't so great - a little foggy, but if you look really carefully, in one of the photos you can see it.

Okay, so if the weather was good, it spans the river here :)

Halloween in Dobbs Ferry

31st October - Halloween

I went trick or treating with Shirin and some of the other children on our street (+ the parents/Au pairs).

Shirin dressed up as sleeping beauty and Cyrus would have been Curious George but he refused to wear his costume.

It was quite neat for the kids. The 2 main streets in Dobbs were shut off from the traffic, and all the stores had someone posted outside their doors to give out candy (lollies!!) to the children.

There was music playing and some professional photographers there.

The fire department had an Ambulance of Doom set up, so the children got to walk through an ambulance.

From Left: Killian, Giulia (Killian and Campbell's Au Pair), Campbell, Elize and Joseph (Killian and Campbell's Dad). In the back are Shirin and Navaz.

Campbell and Killian with Elvis

Navaz and Shirin get 'candy' from Elvis for the second time.

On the way back home. There is a short cut to our house through a walkway called the Aqueduct Trail.

Joseph - a boy from the hood (apparently)
Our group almost home now. Killian, Shirin, Elize, Campbell, Navaz and Elize's Mum.
Just one of the 3 walls of costumes you could choose from.

You can tell it is Halloween when there are broomsticks in the middle of the road.
